The Community Food Disparities Coalition (CFDC) is a St. Paul’s Community Development Corporation initiative formed to provide strategies and resources that address food disparities within communities.

The purpose of the CFDC is to develop and implement long-term solutions to the current food desert, food insecurity and lack of food access for residents by identifying challenges, consequences, strategies, and resources that will have lasting and long-term community impact.

The CFDC will offer recommendations to include but not limited to:

  • Development of a Food Policy Council (FPC) to facilitate coordination, communication, and collaboration among food system stakeholders within and outside of local government;

  • Develop a partnership with and include key local government stakeholders in the planning process;

  • Encourage city departments to help develop a plan and determine how they can promote the plan’s recommendations;

  • Support the development of cross-appointed, intergovernmental food systems planning staff position, an intergovernmental food systems working group, or cross-pollinating working groups to bring ideas together;

  • Create partnerships with local foundations and organizations to leverage support for initial food systems planning pieces, also but leverage other funds for sustainability; and,

  • Balance aspirational goals with measurable goals to enable monitoring and evaluation over time.
